Why does nutrition matter in the workplace?

Nutrition plays a crucial role in the workplace. It directly impacts employee performance, health, and overall well-being. Here are some surprising statistics that highlight why nutrition is important in the workplace:

  1. Impact on Productivity:
    • A study by Harvard Medical School found that poor nutrition contributes to a 66% decrease in productivity due to fatigue, illness, and lack of focus.
  2. Health-Related Costs:
    • According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), poor nutrition contributes to chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. These conditions cost U.S. businesses an estimated $1.1 trillion annually in healthcare expenses and lost productivity.
  3. Reduced Absenteeism:
    • Research published in The Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine shows that employees who consume a nutritious diet take 25% fewer sick days than those who do not prioritize their diet.
  4. Mental Health and Well-being:
    • A survey by the American Psychological Association (APA) found that 53% of workers reported that stress related to poor diet and lifestyle negatively affected their mental health, influencing their ability to focus and perform at work.
  5. Improved Engagement and Retention:
    • A study from Vitality Health revealed that companies with workplace wellness programs, including nutrition-focused initiatives, saw a 45% increase in employee engagement and 30% higher retention rates.
  6. Workplace Productivity:
    • According to Health Affairs, every $1 invested in employee wellness programs can return up to $3 in improved productivity

Nutrition education, healthier food options at work, nutrition screenings, lunch-and-learn sessions, and more can significantly contribute to a robust and meaningful workplace wellness program.

We look forward to working with you and your organization.
