Outpatient Treatment for Eating Disorders in Wrestlers with St. Louis Area Dietitians

How Eating Disorders Impact Wrestling

Eating disorders can significantly impact wrestlers in several ways. This includes their physical health with malnutrition, electrolyte imbalances, weakened immune systems and decreased muscle strength and endurance. This in turn can lead to poor performance, increased injury risk, and long term health issues. Not to mention the mental health component where anxiety, depression, and hyper focus on body image, food, and weight can impact them socially and personally.

What is the treatment for eating disorders in wrestlers?

Treatment for eating disorders in wrestlers include regular medical monitoring, therapy, and nutrition rehabilitation with a member of our Branz Nutrition team to focus on developing a balanced eating plan that supports bone health and athletic performance. Not to mention, we want to work with the athletes coach to educate them on signs and symptoms of the eating disorder acting up and how to support their athlete through recovery to continue to prioritize health and wellbeing over weight and performance.
