What is the no-diet approach to weight loss?
A no-diet approach to weight loss is actually putting weight loss on the backburner and focusing on improving one's relationship with food through the lens of an intuitive eating mindset. We work to challenge any food rules and beliefs we may have regarding previous diets they have been on. While weight loss is not the primary focus with a no-diet approach, it can occur by normalizing eating and movement behaviors.

What is the non-diet approach for dietitians?
A non-diet approach is taking all the previous things you may have been told or instructed to do on the “old” diets and work to challenge the mindset around these behaviors to help improve your overall relationship with food, weight, body, and self. We focus on the intuitive eating principles and a health at every size approach to move towards food freedom.

What is the non-diet approach to HAES?
A non-diet approach to HAES is working to accept and be at peace that we all genetically come in different sizes and shapes and that being “thinner” does not equate to being healthier. Just like we all genetically have different eye color, hair color, heights and shoes sizes, we all naturally come in different weight sizes too, which is NORMAL.
What is the weight-neutral approach of a dietitian?
A weight-neutral dietitian focuses on weight not being the sole reason one may or may not be healthy. Weight is a small component of the equation to health and if we only focus on weight as an indicator of health, we set ourselves up to stay on the path of yo-yo dieting.
The Negative Health Effects of Yo-Yo Dieting (Weight Cycling) Include:
-
Metabolic slow down
-
Muscle loss
-
Increased risk of chronic disease
-
Psychological stress
-
Nutrient deficiencies
-
Strain on cardiovascular health
-
Hormone imbalance
-
Weakened immune system
