What is OSFED?

This diagnosis is for those who have clinically significant eating disorder symptoms that don’t fit into any specific diagnostic category but still cause distress or impairment to their everyday lives when it comes to food, weight, exercise, body, etc. “Other” includes anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder.

Is OSFED in the DSM-5?

Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorders is a diagnostic category in  the DSM-5 that includes eating disorders that don’t fully meet the criteria for specific disorders like anorexia, bulimia, or BED. It is an umbrella term because those who struggle with it may experience many, varied symptoms.

We believe full recovery is possible with the right treatment.

Is OSFED in the DSM-5?

A dietitian can help a patient with OSFED to normalize their eating behaviors, improve their relationship with food, ensure adequate nutrition, and challenge food rules and beliefs around food, exercise, and body to live a happier and healthier life.

We provide both online and in-person outpatient eating disorder nutrition therapy. Our treatment includes:

  • Nutritional Assessment: Nutrition status assessment, identification of deficiencies, and creating a plan to restore and maintain a healthy balance of nutrients.
  • Meal Planning: We will work to develop structured, balanced meal plans, address food anxiety, and help normalize eating patterns.
  • Education and Support: Continued support to help you heal your relationship with food and body. Monitor progress and adjust meal plans. Collaborate with the treatment team.

For teens and children, we offer Family-Based Treatment. And we provide ongoing support with recovery coaching and nutrition counseling. Begin healing today.

How much does medical nutrition therapy cost for OSFED?

We accept most major insurance companies and the majority of our clients pay little to nothing outside of copays or deductibles to meet with a member of our team. We also offer military discounts as we are not in network with Tricare. We always recommend checking your insurance benefits regarding nutrition coverage as coverage depends on the patient’s individual insurance plan.
